Previous ancient owner name. 432 pages. Maximilien de Bethune, Duke of Sully (December 13, 1560 - December 22, 1641) was the doughty soldier, French minister, staunch Huguenot and faithful right-hand man who assisted Henry IV of France in the rule of France. Volume 2 contains Books VII-XII 1594-1601. 6406.

Volumes II begins with a summary of the "books" contained within this volume (Books VII to XII). Covers memoirs from the year 1594 to 1601, which year includes the birth of Louis XIII and the appointment of de Bethune as Ambassador to Rome. Volume IV contains "books" XXI with further memoirs from 1605, to "book" XXVII with the parricide of Henry the Great. 7 1/8" Tall. contemporary Brown Half Leather Bindings with 5 Raised bands to spines. Marbled Boards and leather corners. Gilt titles on Black label in one compartment, Gilt vol No. in another and blind tooled decoration in the rest. Page edges Marbled. Some rubbing to boards & edge wear. Hinges sound. Only an occasional spot of foxing. Size: 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall.

Translated from the French. Binding rubbed with some scuffing along hinges, edges and at corners. Hinges weakened at all 3 volumes. Corners lightly bumped. Ex Libris on inside cover of all 3 volumes. Offsetting and some foxing on first and last few pages of each volume. Sporadic light foxing, at times heavier. Binding in overall good, interior in good+ condition.
