(8), (2) 106 (2)pp. Original photo-illustrated stiff white glossy wraps with red lettering on cover and spine. Color frontispiece. Title page photo-illustrated in color. Catalog of the exhibition "Desert Cantos: Photographs by Richard Misrach" was organized for New Zealand and Australia by the National Art Gallery, New Zealand, from March-May 1988 and other institutions. Designed by Barbara Jellow. "The desert that Richard Misrach presents here is the other desert. Not the pure unsullied wilderness "where god is and Man is not," the desert of Christian purification and American longing, but the real desert that we mortals can actually visit-stained and trampled, franchised and fenced, burned, flooded, grazed, mined, exploited, and laid waste. It is the desert that is truly ours, for we have made it so and must live with the consequences." (Reyner Banham). Illustrated with fifty-five color, mostly full page photographs. Contains epilog by Misrach, list of photographs, a map by Karen Donahue and biographical data of Richard Misrach at rear. Book with some yellowing along edges, not affecting photographs.
