"This is the story of a young girl, daughter of a millionaire, who leaves her father's home, against his very strong will, and rents an ancient country dwelling in the Miramichi valley. " Born in Chatham, New Brunswick in1886, Benedict J. Murdoch was ordained in 1911. Father Murdoch's early years in priesthood were given to the pastoral ministry in New Brunswick. During WWI he served as chaplain and from those harrowing years came his best-known book, The Red Vineyard. The ill effects of the war forced him to give up pastoral duties and in 1932, he retired to spend several years at Bartibogue, where he produced most of his novels and meditative writings by which he has been recognized as one of the leading prose stylists of Canada. Facing Into The Wind, his tenth and last book arrived from the press on the very day of his death. -[ Irish Canadian Cultural Association of New Brunswick].
