First edition, first printing. The publisher's retained copy. Original blue cloth with titles in black to the spine, in dustwrapper. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with just very slight wear to the extremities. The toned contents, with the publisher's "Archive Copy" stamp to the title page, are otherwise clean throughout. Complete with the spine-toned original dustwrapper which is lightly rubbed end creased to the ectremities and has the publisher's "File Copy" stamp and a pencil mark to the front panel, and a small ink "42" to the rear. An excellent example of a scarce title. Dr David Stark Murray (1900-1977), a consultant pathologist and president of the Socialist Medical Associaction from 1951 to 1970, was an active campaigner for the creation of the National Health Service. In this work he outlines 'a practical scheme for a complete socialist medical service: and an answer to the various criticisms that are likely to be levelled against such a scheme'. An interesting title in the early history of the NHS. Provenance: From the archive of the publisher Victor Gollancz. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request.
