Fair to poor condition with considerable external wear including chips to the leather on the rear cover and spine, front hinge cracked but secure, text block sound but not tight (a few sections protruding a little but well attached), pages age-toned with old dampstains pretty much throughout, pages edges worn and corners rounded, small area of insect damage to far lower corner of a few pages and confined to margins, several names on endpapers. Myriad hymns taken from Newton, Cowper, Doddridge and Rippon plus others not often seen. Also contains hymns never before published. The compilers were attempting to provide those hymns most compatible with the congregations in the new Republic (As opposed to those in Great Britain, for example). Words only, no music provided. Originally published circa 1799 this is the Seventh Edition. Chip at spine bottom and rear cover edge; wear through at tips and other places; free front end paper badly chipped along the edges; paper uniformly aged and/or foxed. GOOD.
