Soft cover. Etat : Fair. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Orin and Harvey Blackstone owned a book and record store on Baronne Street in post WWII New Orleans. Known for its back room jazz jam sessions, this store is where Orin began his attempt to compile into a single written source jazz recordings to date assisted by Mack McCormack a budding musicologist in his own right. His efforts grew into a 4-volume INDEX TO JAZZ. An application of this 4 volume format became a monthly magazine publication known as THE JAZZFINDER. Find for sale the first 12 original monthly publications. Signed by Orin inside the front cover of the first January issue, these 6X9 inch 12 monthly issues have photo illustrations and random articles. There is information about late 1940 New Orleans jazz, Be-Bop, hot jazz, blues, Sonny Clay, Raymond Burke, Clarence Williams and much more. The first issue is installed in stiff card boards. There is edge wear on all 12 issues and a former owner printed his name in small text on each issue. As an additional note: Orin was also the founder and manager of the NEW ORLEANS record label.
