Series of photos of Andrew Scavnicky, a miner in the Jeddo-Highland Mine No. 7 near Hazleton, Pennsylvania, taken in 1942 by Nelson Morris, to illustrate a story about the domestic war effort, and only rediscovered in 1982 in the Smithsonian, which provide a rare glimpse into the work and family life of a Czech (Slovak) immigrant coal miner, who at age 67 was still working.
