Hardcover. Etat : Fair. Etat de la jaquette : Poor. Winifred Austen (illustrateur). 1st Edition. 180 pages in folio size. Title page continues: "with sixteen illustrations in water colour and many black and white drawings by Winifred Austen, RI, RE". List of illustrations, however, numbers 14 (rather than 16) in water colour! A book of stories, tales, anecdotes and some poetry on birds, with chapters following on from the excellent and enjoyable water coloured illustrations. Chapter headings are the birds concerned, with sub-headings of the relevant bird's alternative names plus its scientific name - for example, "The Curlew - Whaup and (locally) Whitterick - Numenius arquata. Linnaeus". Several marks to cover, esp on front; wear at top and bottom spine; foxing across end papers and pages nearby; several pages marked as, it seems, a previous owner stored dried leaves between pages, thereby leaving some stains. Jacket is extremely poor (but there is one!), split into two portions, all marked and foxed, torn, worn and nicked with of course some appreciable loss. PLEASE NOTE ? This is a heavy book (in excess of 1kg when packed) but postage/shipping within UK is included in the indicated pricing for 3-5 days shipping time option. For an order outside of UK or an order within UK for 1-3 days shipping time option, however, we will be asking for an additional contribution towards shipping costs.
