Front free endpaper holds signatures of five quilt makers: Revil Mosely, Lucy Mingo, Mary Lee Bendolph, Peter Mosley (Mary's firstborn), and Essie Pettway; as well as three related persons: Louisilena P. Bendolph, Henry Bendolph, and Russell Bendolph. Dust jacket is unclipped, protected in removable mylar, with 1/8" chips at head of spine and lower forecorner of front panel. Hundreds of quilt masterpieces from the early 20th century to the present are traced to this small Black community in Alabama. This volume presents their history with 195 illustrations including 162 in full color. 190 pages includes index of quilt makers, bibliography endnotes.
