In the early 1800's three cultural groups were laying claim to the lands in the Alamosa River Canyon area of New Mexico - the whites (settlers and miners), the Mexicans and the Apache. A HOT mixture to be sure ! ! Patrocinio and his brother Senon Martinez were born in this area in 1873. Apart from running the family ranch, Patrocinio also was part time sherrif and mail carrier.
