The opening 'letter' is dated Sept 4th, 1763, and lampoons the Earl of Bute who, finding the burdens of office too much to bear, is seen seeking the advice of his old adversary William Pitt to recommend a replacement. He was eventually succeeded by George Grenville, Pitt's brother-in-law. Yorke, 1690-1764, lawyer & politician who served as Lord High Chancellor.
