Slightly frayed at head of spine, slight exposure to bottom rear corner. Firm binding. Endpapers and text block edges toned by age. Area of discoloration/soiling along lower fore-edge beginning at p. 94, extending through remainder of volume, mostly confined to minor (1/4" or less) bleeding onto lower margins of interior, several pages showing bleeding almost to right margin of text, most prominent on pp. 94-100 (including one plate) and then reduced to a minor cosmetic issue. 6th ptg.: Jan. 1930. A decent enough copy of a scarce vintage reprint of this 19th-century classic, with a substantial intro. by Asbury. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book.

Shows the boards somewhat handled, corners rubbed, spine lightly tanned, endpapers toned, former owner name neatly on the endpaper, otherwise the binding is strong and tight, the text is clean and unmarked, and the boards remain bright and distinct. As pictured.

Illustrated primarily from woodcuts from vintage newspapers, such as Leslie's Weekly, The Sporting Times and Under The Gaslight. Limited/Numbered. 170 page hardcover bartending history and guide, with illustrations taken from various issues, from 1860 to 1880, from such newpapers as Leslie's Weekly, Stetson's Dime Illustrated, The Sporting Times and Theatrical News, The Illustrated News, Under the Gaslight and Illustrated American Life. The bartenders' portraits are from Under the Gaslight, which in 1878 and 1879 published a series of sketches and pictures called "Our Bartenders." Limited/signed (by the editor Herbert Asbury) edition - this being #94 of 160 printed on Navarre Rag Paper. Salmon colored cloth spine and green paper covered board exterior with title (faint) on spine in gold, and drink graphic on front in gold. The edges are lightly rubbed and the spine cloth is lightly soiled. Interior has prior owner name in pencil on inside front cover, otherwise unmarked, tight and clean. Interior is in very good condition. The author was Principal Bartender at the Metropolitan Hotel, New York, and at the Planters' House, St. Louis.
