Back Cover CopyVolume 1 in this book describes how to determine the activity of different isozymes, allozymes, and families of proteinases to advance the fields of enzymology and molecular evolution, and provides useful biomarkers for various biological processes, pathological conditions, and clinical disorders. The chapters in Volume 1 are organized in four parts. Part I introduces gelatin zymography principle, method and precautions, and a practical view of zymography. Part II provides details on the use of zymography to assess various endopeptidases, and includes updates on protease zymography, protocols for gelatin zymography, detection of gelatinases by substrate zymography, unveiling matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) dynamics, and measuring MMPs activity by gelatin zymography. Part III includes chapters on one- and two-dimensional zymography for assessing proteases, loading-controlled zymography, and the use of gel diffusion-based gelatin zymography to analyze MMP-2 and MMP-9 activity in cell culture. Part IV focuses on the use of zymography to assess protease inhibitors and includes chapters that describe polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis as a tool to identify potential inhibitors of protein glycation and analyze glycation-induced protein cross-linking inhibition, kinetics of protease thermal inactivation, and reversible inhibition of cysteine proteases. Written in the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series format, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Cutting-edge and thorough, Zymography: Principles, Process, and Pitfalls, Volume I is a valuable resource for both experts in the field, as well as new scientists aspiring to learn and perform successful zymography techniques. Volume 2 describes how to determine the activity of different isozymes, allozymes, and families of proteinases to advance the fields of enzymology and molecular evolution, and provides useful biomarkers for various biological processes, pathological conditions, and clinical disorders. The chapters in Volume 2 are organized in three parts. Part I introduces in situ zymography and localization of bright green-fluorescent gelatinase activity in tissue sections, in situ zymography in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded and mineralized tissues, and in vivo zymography as an essential activity assay for studying the activity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in a cell-specific manner in the brain. Part II focuses on biological applications of zymography such as fundamentals of zymography and its applications to the study of biological samples, gelatin zymography to quantify MMP-2 and MMP-9 in complex biological specimens, and detection of proteolytic enzymes in polyacrylamide gels supplemented with diverse biological substrates. Part III focuses on potential clinical applications of zymography, with chapters describing assessment of MMP-2 and MMP-9 hydrolytic activity in preclinical and clinical tissue samples, the use of zymography to assess circulating MMP-2 and MMP-9 in plasma and serum and in pathological conditions, and the use of zymography for the detection of bacterial proteases. Written in the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series format, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls.Cutting-edge and thorough, Zymography: Biological and Clinical Applications, Volume II is a valuable resource for both experts in the field, as well as new scientists aspiring to learn and perform successful zymography techniques. Ajouter au panierSoft cover. Etat : Good. Colour illustrated wraps 24x30cm. Printed by Nasr Packaging & Printing Co. Jeddah. 50pp English + 50pp Arabic texts and floor plans. The inner and outer wraps contain interior views and photos of the collection by Mohammed Israr. Good or better, with some corner creasing, and opening hours inked to the English title page. Undated, but the Museum opened in 1996. In his opening essays, the author (b. 1940) gives insights into his childhood in old Jeddah, the traditional games played, participation in wedding preparations, education, and the onset of development. He was sent to school in Cairo in 1952. In 1977, he started to build his museum using craftsmen from Islamic countries. It was spread across several buildings including a mosque and 9 minarets, with exhibits drawn from a wide variety of arts and crafts. Of great value from a historical architecture perspective are the 20 or so pages set aside for floor plans, accompanied by directions for visitors, and a detailed description of the main features, the materials used etc. Apparently very rare, with Worldcat locating a copy at Libris only (OCLC 937073990).
