There are 12 essays by: William Hickling Prescott, Caleb Cushing, Ralph Waldo Emerson, George Bancroft, John Lothrop Motley, Washington Irving, Charles Francis Adams, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, George William Curtis, Francis Parkman, James Russell Lowell, and Oliver Wendell Holmes.
