Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. 1st Edition. Grass green cloth on boards with bright gilt lettering to front and spine. Small book is tight, square, sharp-cornered and free of any major flaws or markings other than some uneven fading or perhaps past moisture event to the boards (although DJ shows no signs of past moisture). Unclipped plain Dust Jacket is Very Good with little to no scuffing or shelfwear. Price of 7s 6d on spine. Book purchased at the Dreier / Kellor / Robins summer home in Southwest Harbor, Maine. Margaret Dreier Robins was Elizabeth's sister-in-law and a fellow progressive activist on women's issues, immigration, prison reform, etc. etc. Mary Dreier and her partner Frances Kellor lived for many summers at the house and were very active social reformers as well and this book came from their library. The author, Elizabeth Robins (1862-1952) was a famous actress who became a writer and then became very active in the suffrage movement along with other feminist issues. In 1907 her book The Convert was published. It was later turned into a play that became synonymous with the suffrage movement. Robins remained an active feminist throughout her life. In the 1920s she was a regular contributor to the feminist magazine, Time and Tide. She also continued to write books such as Ancilla's Share: An Indictment of Sex Antagonism, which explored the issues of sexual inequality. She collected and edited speeches, lectures, and articles dealing with the women's movement.
