8vo. 5 x 7.5 inches. The Star and the Cloud, 324 pp. Nellie of Truro, [3] + vi-viii + [1] + 4-292 pp. + 16 pp. publisher's advertisements. Nellie of Truro has separate pagination, half title and list of contents. In spite of irregular pagination at the beginning the novel is complete although the the main title page has been omitted as it is bound in with another book. Bound in original cloth, decorated in black and blind stamping with gilt spine title. Extremities worn but otherwise a good copy. 1882 gift inscription on first free endpaper. Decorated with publisher's device on title page and end piece vignette. Two novels, first published around 1856, bound together in one without indication of authors. The Star and The Cloud is by the popular US novelist, Azel Stevens Roe(1798-1853) and Nellie of Truro by the poet and hymn writer, Jane Elizabeth Roscoe Hornblower (1787-1853), born in Liverpool.
