From the library of the film director and cinematographer Nicolas Roeg (1928-2018), with a pencilled note to that effect by his wife Harriett Roeg. John Osborne's The World of Paul Slickey, a musical satire of the tabloid press, premiered at the Palace Theatre on 5 May 1959 and proved one of the most resounding flops in modern theatrical history. Booing broke out in the stalls halfway through the show (Noel Coward and John Gielgud were among the booers) and afterwards Osborne was chased up the Charing Cross Road by irate theatregoers. Folio (255 x 205 mm), ff. [4], 63, [1], 60. Original plain blue card wrappers, two metal butterfly fasteners. Inkstamps of Philip Ridgeway Associates Ltd on front wrapper, stamp of May Hemery Ltd, copying services, on inside front wrapper. Light staining to front wrapper, first page a little soiled, else very good.
