Account of Slatin's time advising the Khalifa Abdullahi in captivity; the work became a bestseller, and influenced Britain's decision to colonize Sudan. Cora Crane was actually the common-law wife of Stephen Crane; she was legally still married to one Captain Donald William Stewart, a British military official who served in India and as the British Resident in the Gold Coast. She met Stephen Crane in 1896, traveled with him to Cuba, and remained with him until his death. [62556].
