Half-leather bound covers with marbled boards. Brown leather on spine is severely chipped, title info missing, hinges cracked. Leather rubbed from corners entirely. Marbled boards are heavily rubbed/faded, chipping in places. Last signature protrudes a bit, though binding is tight. Full refund if not satisfied.

Paul and Virginia translated from the French of Bernardin Saint Pierre by Helen Maria Williams, seventh edition 1806. Contains 170 pages in mostly clean condition but some heavy to medium foxing to plates and a few pages the plates are on a heavier paper and seems to have attracted the foxing. Book opens up to rear of frontispiece, believe the original front blank enpaper is missing old ink name on this blank page. Four B/w illustrations plus frontispiece and title page illustration, six in total all present as listed. NO dustwrapper.full leather boards are a little rubbed and worn to edges and spine has split down front hinge and been repaired not perfectly but not unsightly, probably done a while ago.Though not perfect still a reasonable example of this book SEE IMAGES. DETAILED IMAGES AVAILABLE ON REQUEST. Seventh Edition. Full Decorated Leather. Good/No Jacket. 6 ½ x 4 Inches. Hardcover.

Lovely contemporary green calf stamped in a diamond pattern, four raised bands, red lettering pieces, endpapers and all edges marbled. Old ink name at head of title, some staining and foxing of plates, picture of Paul and Virginia entitled "The Parting of Paul and Virginia" a marble group by Hamilton MacCarthy, A.R.C.A., Toronto stuck on front blank facing the engraved title. OCLC lists only 9 copies of this printing, all in the US, of this second edition with an engraved title page and 215 pages. A digital picture of the binding, on request, will be necessary to do justice to this beautiful contemporary binding which may well be of local origin. There is another edition of the same year published by G. G. and J. Robinson.

Hardcover. Etat : Near Fine. Full calf, 6 1/2 inches tall. A delightful full diced calf with wide gilt raised bands, twin labels and ornate gilt tooling to the panels. The diced boards are framed within gilt fillets and blind and gilt rolls. A charming and neat inscription, dated 1822 is to be found on the reverse of the free end paper and a neat ink former owner's name on the first blank. With five fine engraved plates. A little superficial loss to the lower board, otherwise in splendid condition.
