Soft cover. Etat : Near Fine. 1st Edition. pp: 199. NUMBERED LIMITED EDITION. Number 1249 of a limited printing of 2000 copies. The book was published as a companion to 'Through Open Doors: A View of Asian Cultures in Kenya'. The second volume of a three-volume history of the Indian pioneers who traded with, and settled in Kenya. The author has collected memoirs, stories, documents, records, and letters that, together, offer a comprehensive history of the settlement of Indians in Kenya. There was an influx of Indians looking for a better life following the creation of British East Africa Protectorate in 1895. However, the story begins much earlier than that. The Portuguese explorer Vasco de Gama recorded the presence of Indians traders along the coast of East Africa as early as the 15th century. This is a near fine copy with only very minor signs of wear.

The very name "Asians" indiscriminately lumps together communities of immense diversity - and complexity. The Asians of Kenya compose a kaleidoscope of cultures. And their cultures, encountered and observed through open doors, are what this book is all about.
