This is volume 48 of the Sussex Record Society's printed works and considers the town of Lewes between the years 1542-1701. Before the writing of this volume the records of Lewes had be meagre, especially before the nineteenth century and this volume aimed to redress this imbalance.Four plates of illustrations.Collated, complete. In full morocco binding. Externally, very smart. There is some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and the extremities and some fading to the joints. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages. The front and rear free endpaper are slightly discoloured. Very Good Indeed. book.

Mix of first editions and reprints, very scarce complete eight volume set.Issued privately to subscribers only for the University of London Institute of Historical Research.Illustrations include a frontispiece to each volume, as well as numerous illustrated plates and in-text illustrations.Volumes VII and VII are presented in the original unclipped dust wrappers.Part of the 'Victoria History of the Counties of England', which was a 'National Historic Survey', with the intention of recording the history of every county of England in detail.This is a wonderful and comprehensive history on the county of Warwickshire, with information on the area's history as well as topographical descriptions. This particular series was originally meant to be made up of four volumes, before being expanded upon in later years with a change of editors and publishers.Volume I (1904) includes a natural history of Warwickshire, followed by essays such as 'Romano-British Remains' and 'Text of the Warwickshire Domesday'. With one colour plate, three black-and-white plates, one double-paged map, one full-page map, six map illustrations, and forty-three in-text illustrations.Volume II (1965 reprint) includes 'Ecclesiastical History' 'Religious Houses', 'Social and Economic History, 'Industries', and 'Schools'. With three illustrated plates.Volume III (1965 reprint) includes information on the topography of Warwickshire, as well as the 'Barlichway Hundred'.
