[38 leaves (unnumbered).] With 72 silver gelatin photographs, all mounted, w/ printed woodcut borders, sized from 3 x 3.25 in. to 6.75 x 8.5 in., all preserving their original tissue guards, 4 printed pieces of ephemera, and two different mounted samples depicting colours and colour plastic vinyl bristles, as well as plastic product mounting tab. Padded simulated brown calf binding, rounded corners, w/ clipped "Elaston" company logo mounted on ffep. (1 small photo removed by family at some point), together w/ original clamshell case (minor foxing & soiling to interior paper, minor edgewear & scuffing to patterned paper boards, VG-/VG- copy, and presentation inscription in German to Mr. H. Ahnhudt, who was moving into become a sales representative for Elaston brushes, dated Sept., 1952. First edition, presentation copy, of this wonderfully illustrated salesman sample photo album for this East German company manufacturing and selling brushes, and industrial brooms, following World War II. The carefully shot and curated photographs depict the milling equipment, production sales graphs, table saws for cutting and preparing the brush heads and handles, as well as the methods of choosing the timber, logging, and sorting of cut timber. The company used by-products from the process to manufacture bed slats and bed frames, even with post-War shortages. Also depicted are the processes by which the wood was dried, brush heads milled, the colours and types of sample bristles, and finally the finished products all depicted in a very nice Art Deco showroom with neon lighting. Rhodius, Schmedding & Co. was initially a plastics factory, which also produced brushes, street cleaning bristles, plastic cable ties, plastic strips, and more, which adapted during the Post-War shortages, and succeeded in operating for decades in East Germany until the re-unification in Friedrickroda. No copies in Worldcat of either salesman's album, or the sales literature inserted.
