Green cloth with black letters on the spine and with a vignette in black on the front cover of a dog barking at a bluejay sitting on a branch. Just hints of wear to the extremities, cloth clean and bright, frontispiece fine, else fine with no internal markings. Dust jacket has a few chips around the edges, else very good and better. This is the story of Patrick and his grandfather, Old Con, who finds two pets for the boy--one of them a puppy named Mr. McPherson, the other a bluejay with a shriveled leg who spent considerable time on Patrick's head. [from the jacket] Born in Boston, Ruth Sawyer [Mrs. Albert C. Durand, 1880-1970] was a prolific writer who also wrote THE CHRISTMAS ANNA ANGEL, THE WAY OF THE STORYTELLER, THE LEAST ONE, THE LONG CHRISTMAS, THE YEAR OF JUBILO, ROLLER SKATES, TONO ANTONIO, etc.
