Encuadernación de tapa blanda. Etat : Muy bien. In-8. #1 Jul 1973 - #4 1975. (Complete set of first stage). Wrappers. The magazine Comunicación y cultura was a mass communication magazine founded in 1973 in Santiago de Chile. Hector Schmucler, Armand Mattelart and Hugo Assmann were its directors, the first two continuing later.1 Its initial number was written and published in Chile. After Pinochet's coup, Mattelard went into exile in France and Schmucler moved the magazine's headquarters to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where that first issue was reissued and the next three were edited. In 1976, a new civil-military coup d'état, this time in Argentina, forced Schmucler into exile in Mexico, where he continued to edit the magazine until 1985.The magazine was born in a socio-historical context in which all of Latin America was involved in a political effervescence that permeated all areas of society.2 They were moments of much political and economic dispute and the incipient Latin American communication studies were inserted in these discussions, the central theme was the social struggle against imperialist domination. This is clearly reflected in the following statement corresponding to the editorial of Number 1 of the magazine: "The function that Communication and Culture intends to fulfill is to establish itself as an organ of linking and expression of the various experiences that are taking place in Latin American countries, in the field of mass communication. Obviously, it is not about assuming any experience, but rather those that favor the processes of total liberation of our dependent societies. This norm of political priority will be the demarcation line that the magazine will draw to collect its themes, its centers of interest, its readers and collaborators. Tarcus P65. CodZ.

Encuadernación de tapa blanda. Etat : Muy bien. Folio. #1 Jul 1969 - #44 Jan/Feb 1976. (Lacks #29, 32). Wrappers. Collaborators : Santiago Funes, Horacio Ciafardini, Oscar Terán, Eliseo Verón, Guillermo Schavelzon, Cristina López Meyer, Isabel Carballo, Marcelo Díaz, Manuel Amigo, Jorge Brega, Among others.Los Libros was a key forum in the dispute over the ways of the revolution and above all for the university transformation in the midst of what was considered as the crisis of the Argentine and Latin American universities. Regarding the importance assigned to the university, Carlos Altamirano, one of the directors of Los Libros, underlines in a note that the number dedicated to the university quickly ran out and that in it Beatriz Sarlo had written an article about Argentine literature programs, which helped the students of Philosophy and Letters to challenge, argue, and get involved. Unlike the magazine Crisis, Los Libros produced articles or papers or dossiers that were used for university debate, the magazine is a "criticism of ideology". This will be the framework from which it promotes the systematic criticism of bibliographic novelties - especially, the renewal of Marxist readings according to the structuralist matrix -, deals with the problems of literary criticism that emerged in those years and attends to the agenda of problems pointed out by the national left. Los Libros was addressed to a university reader, not only because of the titles it reviewed but also because of the books it published and the style of the advertisements. The numerous advertisements from printers, paper companies and distributors, such as Librecol and DER, were joined by central publishers of the new Argentine left, such as Jorge Álvarez, Tiempo Contemporáneo and Galerna -the publishing house that also financed Los Libros- and advertisements from large publishers, such as Sudamericana, Monte Avila and Amorrurtu. As the numbers went by, important announcements from the university publishers of Chile, Venezuela and Mexico were added, as well as correspondents in several countries. Undoubtedly, the Argentine and Latin American readers of Los Libros had gone through the university or studied there. Both that readership and the collaborating team were made up of university women. And although Los Libros did not allocate a space for reflection to the problem of women, they participated alongside men - whose firms were the majority -, as correspondents, literary critics and editors of political, sociological and psychoanalytic articles. The magazine is raided and closed in May 1976 by the military government. Tarcus p56. CodZ.
