Hardback. Quarter black leather and blue cloth, gilt lettering on front cover, 8vo, 101 pp., blue end papers. Illustrated with photographs. Written by the subjects' brother. Memorial of Walter H. Schulze, born and raised in Kenilworth, Illinois, attended West Point, class of 1917. Originally assigned to the cavalry, Schulze managed to transfer to aviation, and after training, was attached to the 185th Squadron, flying Sopwith Camels. After the armistice, Schulze transferred to the 41st Aero Squadron, and later to the 138th Squadron. On June 28, 1919, Schulze was killed in a crash while delivering news of the signing of the peace treaty ending the war. Owner's bookplate on front paste-down, tape residue on ffep. No marks in book. Leather backstrip shows considerable wear, with 2" tear at joints at top and lacking 3/4" at bottom, title handwritten on spine. Book condition Good. Binding: HB.

Privately printed Limited Edition [not numbered] first edition hard back binding in original quarter dark blue morocco leather with dark blue cloth covered boards, gilt lettering and flying eagle design on the front cover, top edge gilt, blue end papers. 8vo. 9¼'' x 7''. Contains 102 printed pages of text with tissue-guarded frontispiece, monochrome photographs throughout. In Fine condition, now in clear acetate dust wrapper. From the private library of William T. Cresmer with his smart bookplate inside the front cover. Member of the P.B.F.A. FIRST WORLD (Great) WAR.

T.e.g. (116)pp. Rodgers & Co., Schulze , a 1917 USMA graduate, was assigned to the cavalry, transferred to aviation in France, and after training joined the U.S. 185th Aero Squadron about the time of the Armistice. The unit returned to America and he was then posted to the U.S. 41st Aero Squadron at Coblenz, Germany. After that unit returned to the U.S. he joined the U.S. 138th Aero Squadron. He was killed in a flying accident on June 28, 1919, while delivering a special edition of The Amaroc News announcing the fact that the German delegates had signed the treaty of Versailles. Spine leather scuffed along top and bottom edge, corners bumped. Book label on front pastedown. octavo, dark blue boards and black leather spine. T.e.g. First Edition.
