The work is based on Census Bureau's Head of Families at the first Census of the Unites States taken in the year 1790. The Vermont census was actualy taken a year later in 1791, the year that Vermont became the 14th state. While the federal census only names the head of the family Bartley has undertaken to identify with relevant dates the HoF's children and grandchildren. The second and final volume also edited by Bartley was published in 1997. Every effort is made to ship all books and other items within 24 hours.
