Original staple-stitched pictorial wrappers (unattributed, but signed MB); 234, [3] pp. Four full-page illustrations by Seregin. Very good or better. First edition thus of the 1923 short story by prolific Soviet writer Marietta Shaginian (1888?1982), set during the Civil War, which describes work on an "agit-waggon" or train car specially equipped for the work of political agitation and propaganda during the conflict between Reds and Whites. In some cases, such waggons were designed and decorated by leading figures of the Russian avant-garde, such as a car "outfitted" at Vitebsk by Nikolai Suetin, Kazimir Malevich, and others in 1920. A Yiddish edition as published in 1932. Rare; we cannot trace any copies of this edition in the Russian trade in recent years. As of January 2025, KVK, OCLC only show two copies worldwide of the Russian edition, in Japan and the UK respectively, with none located in North America.
