Hardcover. Etat : new. Hardcover. The definitive presentation of one of the most unique and compelling works of classical Tibetan literature. This book presents an influential and extraordinary teaching of the Kagyue tradition of Tibetan Buddhism known as the Single Intention by the master Drigung Jikten Sumgoen (1143-1217), along with its chief commentaries, principally the Light of the Sun by Rikzin Choekyi Drakpa (1595-1659). Early in the history of the Kagyue school, the teachings of Jikten Sumgoen were condensed into 150 core formulations called vajra statements. These pithy, revelatory statements comprise the Single Intention (Dgongs gcig), which presents the thought of the Buddha and the nature of the ineffable (brjod du med pa) in concise and direct expression. The Single Intention weaves the thread of ineffable mahamudra through the entire fabric of Buddhism. It presents mahamudra as pervading disciplined conduct, meditative concentration, and discriminative knowledge; ground, path, and result; view, practice, and conduct; and the "three vows" of pratimoksa, of the bodhisattvas, and of mantra. Jikten Sumgoen teaches how the fundamental values and insights revealed by the Buddha are woven into reality and therefore accessible to all. Jan-Ulrich Sobisch manages to convey the unity of the Buddha's message both in its particulars and in its scope. His deep and authoritative skill makes this the definitive presentation of one of the most unique and compelling works of classical Tibetan literature. Etat : Sehr gut. Orginal cloth binding, xvi, 575 pages, corners slightly bumped, very good condition. " Three Vow Theories in Tibetan Buddhism" is the first comparative study of the interrelations of the three Buddhist systems of vows as explained by some of the greatest scholars and adepts of Tibet. Although conventional monastic Buddhism insists on a strict avoidance of evil deeds, the Mahayana, which stresses as foremost the welfare of others, allows the occasional ignoring of moral rules if altruistically motivated, whereas the Vajrayana goes so far as to teach that the yogi is sometimes obliged to transgress a moral code. Very hard to find. The attempts in Tibet since the twelfth century to harmonize the different vows of Pratimoksa, Mahayana, an Vajrayana led to lively controversies and ingenious exegetic strategies. One strategy was to postulate the superiority of Vajrayana either trough an automatic upward transformation" of the lower vows" or a complete outshining" of conventional moral codes. Many masters stressed that particular practices of the Vajrayana, such as sexual yoga, were exceptions that only a few excedingly accomplished yogis could carry out. To clarify the historical background, brief biographies of the main authors on this theme are presented, including for the Indian pandita Vibhuticandra, the Tibetan masters Gorampa (Sakya), Gampopa (Kayu), Karma Thrinlay and Karma Ngedön (Karma Kabrgyu), Kongtrül (Rime), Jigten Gönpo and Dorje Sherab (Drigung Kargyu), and Ngari Panchen and Lochen Dharmashri (Nyingma). The present book is the doctoral dissertation (U. Hamburg, 1999) of Dr. Jan-Ulrich Sobisch." Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 1100.

Etat : Neu. Neu - A-mes-zhabs was a stroke of luck for the Sakyapa school of Tibetan Buddhism. This catalogue provides an access to his ca. 700 newly discovered manuscripts, many of which will serve researchers as meticulous introductions to the lives and teachings of numerous Sakyapa masters and to the history especially of the Sakya tradition and of tantric cycles of teachings such as Hevajra, Lam 'bras, Yamantaka, Guhyasamaja, the Yoga tantras, and many more. A-mes-zhabs, an outstanding historian, is for the Sakyapas what Jamgön Kongtrul has been for the Nyingma and Kagyü traditions. 607 pp. Deutsch.
