VG in partial DJ. Owner inscription fep, DJ has only flaps & back cover & are edge worn. The Legends are fantastic, funny "modernized" versions of ghost stories & saintly legends in an age of punning & tortured verse-endings. In Prof. Saintsbury's opinion, "One of the most remarkable writers of all but purely comic verse in English or any language". Attractive book. Brown binding with embossed cover, gilt lettering.

Hardcover. 9p., rubricated heads and numerals, hardbound in 7x5 inch boards, cloth backstrip, and a printed paper cover label. A nice production; as it were, fine-press once removed. Casing is a little worn, toned and scratched; lies flat and square, a good to very good copy. Pressman and introducer Dille has reduced the original story to expert doggerel; "I think," he says, "my preference for this particular legend is because of the denouement, which involves not only the pharmacological effects of cyanide but also the delicate accomplishment of homicide the the method of Burke and Hare".
