He also wrote grammars for Persian, Hindustani, Punjabi and Gujarati. As an early scholar of Gujarati grammar, he defined three major varieties of Gujarati: a standard 'Hindu' dialect, a 'Parsi' dialect and a 'Muslim' dialect.
