Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Rockwell Kent did dust jacket and endpapers - many posed black and white photo spoofs (illustrateur). 1st Edition. HUM 039940 This grey cloth First Edition (1922 on title page and copyright page) hardcover has mostly clean boards with the gilt title on the front board bright. The spine has some sun darkening and that title is still readable but darker. There is a little fraying and tearing to top of spine and even less on bottom and edges and corners show little wear. The color endpapers with a "smiling walrus" are lovely and look like the heroic work of Rockwell Kent and are, but with tongue in cheek. The obviously fake photos are quite funny. The inside pages are clean and tight- there is a nice bookplate on the front inside board covering some of the endpaper. The dust jacket is a replica of the endpaper illustration but is in two large pieces- the front with large flap and the rear cover with large flap. Most, but not all, of the dust jacket spine is awol. We have put the pieces in a Brodart cover to preserve them.
