Livre
21 cm x 26.9 cm. 72 pages. With black and white and colour illustrations. Original Softcover. Very good+ condition with only minor signs of external wear. Only very minor discolouration to page margins. Otherwise very clean and bright. Includes for example the following artwork by Turner: Shields, on the River Tyne 1823 / Rochester, on the River Medway 1822 / Venice, The Ducal Palace 1827 / The Artist and his Admirers 1827 / The Old Library: A Vase of Lillies, Dahlias and Other Flowers 1827 / Genoa from the Sea c.1828 etc. This book is the fourth in a series focusing on Turner's watercolours and drawings from successive decades of his life. In this period 1820-1830 Turner was at the peak of his maturity, involved in a wide range of projects. As an illustrator for publications, such as the 'Rivers of England', the 'Ports of England', the 'Picturesque Views in England and Wales' and Roger's 'Italy', he created designs that reached an ever-increasing public and have proved to be of enduring appeal. At the centre of the decade are Turner's experiments with colour, including evocative studies of sunrise and sunset light, as well as watercolours for the 'Little Liber', pursued in conjunction with his own remarkable mezzotints. During the decade, Turner travelled extensively abroad, and many subjects catalogued here chart his journeys in France and Italy. Notable among numerous drawings of England made in these years are a group of the studies painted at Petworth, some of Turner's most colourful, spontaneous and personal creations. (From cover notes) Joseph Mallord William Turner RA (1775-1851), known contemporarily as William Turner, was an English Romantic painter, printmaker and watercolourist. He is known for his expressive colourisations, imaginative landscapes and turbulent, often violent marine paintings. (Wikipedia) Sprache: english.
