The map shows the wine-producing areas of Alsace that lie between the Vosges mountains in the west and the Rhine river in the east. The vineyards' altitudes of 175-420m provide a good balance between temperature, drainage, and sun exposure for wine production. The wine produced in the region is mostly white wine, and is known for producing some of the most noted dry Rieslings in the world.The left third of the map shows the Middle German style houses of the area, shown above a group of dancers in traditional Alsatian dress next to a barrel of grapes. The middle third shows the areas of wine production, highlighting cities like Strasbourg, Colmar, and Mulhouse. The right third of the map shows a vineyard in an expressionistic mix of greens, blues, oranges, and yellows, shown above more dancers in traditional dress holding a ribbon and bunches of grapes. South-West France covers the upstream areas around the Dordogne and Garonne rivers, as well as the wine-producing area of Gascony. The brandy-producing region of Armagnac is situated within the region as well, and sometimes Armagnac is mixed with wine to produce a drink called Floc de Gascogne. The region produces a wide variety of wines.The map shows southwestern France from Bordeaux to the border of Spain to the city of Toulouse. On the left side is the Atlantic Ocean. Within the map are circles containing illustrations of various towns, castles, and mountains. French artist, illustrator and print maker, Remy Hetreau took on this task, creating some magnificent posters highlighting local wineries of eight different regions.The title is contained in a ribbon cartouche at the top of the map. Here Hetreau presents a scroll background on which are positioned a young man and woman holding a map of the Languedoc-Roussillion province in southern France that is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea. Grape vines nearly surround the entire map, of which barrels from the towns of Montpellier, Nimes, and Beziers are suspended. At the bottom, an anchor is wrapped in a long ribbon featuring the port towns of Sete, Narbonne, and Perpignan.Languedoc-Roussillon wine comes from the region of France that spans the Mediterranean coastline from border with Spain to the region of Provence. Remy Hetreau, Frenchillustrator and print maker took on this task, creatinga set of magnificent posters highlighting local wineries of eight different regions.The title is contained in a ribbon cartouche at the top of the map.Two maidens hold open a rolled map of the Champagne province of France, located in the northeast section of the country some 150 kilometers due east of Paris. Grape vines intertwine with baroque style scrollwork that surrounds the map on all sides. The mapidentifies nearly one hundred vineyards located between and around the towns ofTroyes, Epernay, Chalons Sur Marne, andReims, all of which are marked with white grapes.Champagneis the region where the sparkling white wine first originated and today,EU law and the laws of most countries reserve the term "Champagne" exclusively for wines that come from this region. The first recorded export of wine from the region wasreceived in 1518 by Henry VIIIs chancellor located in England. Production would increase dramatically during the 19th century from 300,000 bottles a year in 1800 to 20 million bottles in 1850.
