A very good, clean sturdy hardcover edition overall with minor shelf wear and light rubbing at the corners, cover cloth bright; hinges and binding tight, paper only slightly yellowed with just a touch of foxing to the fore-edges; in a very good, sharp, and moderately worn dust jacket. A great copy of this first edition with the rare original dust jacket.

Set in Boston and in Gloucester, Massachusetts. The novel opens with a small boy standing outside a store. He soon is conversing with a man he calls Uncle Jack. Grammar note: contractions each have a space not used since the early 20th century; e.g. "didn't" is printed as "did n't". Very good. No dust jacket. Signed by previous owner.
