First Edition in English. Octavo. Frontispiece by T. Dighton, 406pp. Possibly written by Baron A.H. de Jomini as noted by the British Museum. A story of fantasy of Napoleon and his afterlife. The creator takes him on a tour visiting heaven and hell and all in between. A handsome copy bound by Zahnsdorf in full red polished calf, board edges double ruled in gilt raised bands with compartments stamped in gilt depicting the bee and eagle, green morocco spine label gilt, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt, some chipping to lower edge of frontispiece, toning to title page. From the library of Alfred S. Austrian (1870-1932) who was a Chicago lawyer for the White Sox. Comiskey was aided and abetted by Austrian during the Black Sox Affair. And, of collector Walter L. Darling with their bookplates.

Bound in period full diced calf, with boards double ruled, and the spine's five compartments elaborately decorated in gilt. Title on red morocco title label. Previous owner's name and address on a front end paper. The board's edges and joints are mild to moderately rubbed, with a small strip of leather pulled away on the rear board. Still, an attractive binding of this piece of Napoleonana. *** Thought to be written by Baron Antoine-Henri Jomini. Jomini is considered a father of modern military strategy, and was the only author of strategy taught at West Point before the Civil War. In this book, Napoleon is given an angelic guide of Heaven and Hell, before arriving to his new Celestial home, Politicopolis. ***.

Scarce and fascinating piece of Napoleoniana describing the fallen Emperor on a tour through the outskirts of Heaven and Hell. After various curious experiences, Napoleon is finally brought to the entrance of his Celestial home. Front board and part of back cover sunned. Few small stains on front board, small stain on spine. Slight rubbing on parts of edges and along head and tail of spine. Wear on top corners, otherwise a tight copy with binding in good+, interior in very good to near fine condition.
