Pp. (vi), xxii, (ii), 352. Partly with some light marginal staining. Brown morocco. First English edition of the famous account by two German missionaries about their religious discussions in Tranquebar with Hindu heathens. Ziegenbalg and Gründler, German Lutherans, spent many years as missionaries in Tranquebar, a small Danish colony on the south-east coast of India. Mission stations were found in Srirangam, Tanjore, Madura, Kanchi, Chidambram and Tirupathi. The missionaries travelled extensively and established contacts with the Brahmans.
