For this project, Gonzalez-Foerster took as her point of departure the Society's renowned research library, expanding and updating the historic collection with twentieth-century literature by nearly 40 different authors. The artist installed these books in a trio of dioramas, organizing them by place of origin in one of three regions: the desert, the tropics and the North Atlantic. This companion volume to the installation includes new writing by Gonzalez-Foerster's past collaborator, the celbrated Spanish novelist Enrique Vila-Matas. The book is printed in three different covers, reproducing each of the three diaromas.

The simplicity and systematic character of his extraordinary work, along with his relentless exploration and ingenious discovery of an art of light, established him as a progenitor and chief exponent of Minimalism. Uniquely situated outside the mediums of painting and sculpture, the majority of Flavins work after 1963 consists of art made from light.

This landmark book the first retrospective publication of Flavins art since 1969 includes around 45 of the artists most important light works, beginning with a pivotal series of constructed boxes with attached incandescent or fluorescent lights, called icons, made from 1961 to 1963. Works spanning Flavins career are discussed in depth, including examples that integrate light with the surrounding space and show the particular characteristics of blended fluorescent light, large-scale installations, and constructed corridors. The book also includes reproductions of Flavins drawings, which show his thought processes and working methods.

New scholarship and interpretation of Flavins work appears in the form of three critical essays by experts, an extensive chronology, comprehensive bibliography, and exhibition history. In addition, Flavins seminal text . . . in daylight or cool white. an autobiographical sketch, originally published in Artforum in 1965, is included.

Exquisitely designed and produced, with many new stunning color reproductions, Dan Flavin: A Retrospective captures the brilliance of this artists contribution to and challenges of the art world and will be the authoritative volume on Flavin for years to come.

Varying in color and sewn together in bundles, this hair was navigated by visitors, while in the middle of the room sat a lone figure at a desk, whose task was to read and burn each line of a text in a book; from somewhere outside the building came the strangulated garble of a man attempting speech. This surreal environment, with its attendant sense of dream landscape and half-formed associations, is classic Hamilton, at once seductive and disorienting. This book records the project.

"Arena" is a major but rarely exhibited Beuys work that consists of 100 panels containing several hundred photographs of Beuys, spanning the artist's career from the late 40s to 1972. Realized in 1973, "Arena" attains a monumental scale and the sort of grand design appropriate to an artistic summa; as such, the project amounts to a broad portrait of Beuys' artistic persona. It is here documented for the first time.
