color & b/w plates, ports. frontis, bio/chron., cat., bibliographical references, d.j. OCLC: 846479392. Anthological edition devoted to the over 45 year-career of photographer, curator and author Sara Facio (b. Argentina 1932), considered one of the great Argentine artists of the 20th century. This multi-awarded photographer was a pioneer in many ways: she introduced photographic biographies, the series of shots in the style of journalism, the natural portrait, experimentation with color over black and white copies, dissemination of photography -through articles, bibliographies, reviews of exhibitions and news techniques from Argentina and from abroad- in the media, and the creation of a publishing company devoted exclusively to books by or about photography "La Azotea Editorial Fotográfica", amongst other achievements of her most noticeable and impressive career. The book clearly reflects both sides of her 5 decades of brilliant career: one as a photographer, another as theoretical. "Both I have traveled them with the same passion", he acknowledges. Facio lived with her partner poet, novelist, musician, dramaturge, writer and composer María Elena Walsh until her death in 2011. The book clearly reflects both sides of her 5 decades of brilliant career: one as a photographer, another as theoretical. "Both I have traveled them with the same passion", he acknowledges. "Undoubtedly there is no one more deserving of an anthology in book form than Sara Facio, because of her constant contribution to reflections on all aspects of Argentine photography. This retrospective requires particular analysis because it combines her roles as photographer and curator that have so deeply marked the development of several of her colleagues."--P. 243. OCLC: 727701766. Peruvian born photographer Milagros de la Torre (born 1965) has worked for over 15 years on this series, which explores the overlap between photography and the darker side of human nature, particularly in the criminal underworld and in the suggestive use of enigmatic objects. Drawing on photographic compositional techniques such as serialization, decontextualization, classification and defocus, she exposes the power of photographic rhetoric to frame and prejudice our vision. De la Torre is a receipient of the 2011 Guggenheim Fellowship Award in Photography. ENGLISH AND SPANISH TEXTS.

b/w and color plates, ports., facs., cat., glos., bibl. (p. 333-338), color pict. d.j. OCLC: 706072573. A rigorous descriptive cataloging of the more than 500 pieces (silver items, art, photographs, ponchos (gaucho garments) and other objects of daily use) that account for the diverse cultural settlements in this territory during a convulsive period of social and political organization. These patrimonial pieces (some reproduced in full-page plates) lend from private collections and from the holdings of diverse museums reconstruct the diversity and richness of the customs and traditions of the pampas and the Patagonia throughout the 19th century. Based in the narrations of world visitors and intellectuals -such as Lucio V. Mansilla and cacique Calfucurá- and local literature, these objects (silverware, and decorated objects and ponchos as signs of power) and their aesthetic value contribute to a new perception on the daily life and social and political structures of the inhabitants of the far away prairie: horse riding "caciques" and mapuche Indians and women adorned with costly jewels. The book includes the only compendium published to date on the Tehuelche Capes written by Sergio Caviglia. Published on the occasion of the exhibition "Las Pampas: Arte y Cultura en el Siglo XIX" held in 2010 at the Fundacion Proa, Buenos Aires.

4°. 200 pages with numerous black-and-white photographs. Original Hardcover with original dustjacket in protective collector's mylar. Very good condition with only very minor signs of wear. Price includes worldwide free shipping per courier. Includes chapters on: Introductory Essay: "Vanguardia y Clasicismo" por Adrian Gorelik 1. The photographic work of Horacio Coppola in the years 1929-1936 / 2. The photographic work of Facundo de Zuviria in the years 1980-2005 / 3. Traduccion al Ingles (With a summary of the text, translated into english) Once again available, this book offers two different and complementary views on Buenos Aires. That of Horacio Coppola s allows us to see the town through its most emblematic images of the urban landscape with which he designed his own Buenos Aires: downtown and suburban streets, typical quarters, building changes. The chosen photographs, dating between 1929 and 1936, include several snapshots hitherto unpublished and the original negatives. The photographs belonging to Facundo de Zuviria seem to preserve a balance between urban landscapes and poetic abstraction, thus in full accordance with Coppola s spirit. Hence, there appear buildings facades, shop-windows and different suburbs, wherein the artist thinks a deep and essential Buenos Aires still survives. The city s thorough description presented in this book, shows, through its two creators eyes, something that is deeply rooted and preserved, i.e. an urban essence perpetually underlying behind the facades and its people, not easily to be defined though indeed intuitively perceived: the soul of Buenos Aires.
