b/w plates, facs., bibl., wrps. Incubo is a non-profit residency program based in Santiago de Chile. The program seeks to provide an exchange between international curators and local artists to foster ideas, multiple viewpoints and experiences about contemporary art. The invitation to Luis Camnitzer (b. Lübeck/Germany,1937, emigrated to Uruguay in 1939. Citizen of Uruguay. Lives/works in U.S.A. since 1964) some 37 years after his last visit to Chile (1969). Camnitzer created one of the key conceptual works of contemporary art made in Chile during the 1960s's based on the massacre in Puerto Monte, Chile in 1969 of a group of settlers. In formal and conceptural terms, the construction devices derived from the mechanical nature of printmaking tecniques---shooting bullets flying in xeroxed papger glued to the floor and walls of the gallery at MBA. This inviation had a 3-fold purpose: to re-create the "Masacre de Puerto Montt" to recover that vision of a conceptual practice that had not been recorded in 1969. Secondly, much of Camnitzer's work has been dedicated to art education and Gerardo Pulido would elaborate in depth about Camnitzer and the topic of education for this publication. Lastly, To answer the curatorial query of how to mount a site-specific work, almost forty years later, without it being recognized as cultural antropology. ENGLISH AND SPANISH TEXTS.
