[Modern literature/60s culture] FIRST EDITION, first printing, together with the first paperback edition. Tow vols., octavos. Publisher's red hardcover in pictorial dust-wrapper, designed by the author, priced 30s., and publisher's illustrated softcovers priced 5s. Lightly handled, minor spotting, expected toning to cheap paperback stock. Both copies near fine. The author's second novel, a frank portrait of the squalid side of gay life in London in the 'sixties; a sleazy, nightmare and criminal world 'not for the squeamish' (from the blurb). 'Dickie' Chopping was the artist responsible for the memorable series of jacket designs which adorned Ian Fleming's James Bond novels. He later attempted fiction, which was well received and established him as a credible author in his own right. This pair from the comprehensive collection assembled by Jon Gilbert, with his pencilled ownership. His encyclopaedic guide to the works of Ian Fleming (2012) won the 16th Breslauer Prize for bibliography. Gilbert p.637.
