First thus- a trade paperback. Impressive novel of a minister who goes back in memory to make sense of what happened to two young black boys - one of them his younger self - 30 years ago in a small town in Tennessee. Hardcover - 2nd printing (same year as the first) Edited and with an introduction by Eugene Redmond. A NYC subway cop shot Henry Dumas in 1968 in a case of "mistaken identity". Before his death at 33,however, Dumas had produced a collection of poems and short stories, only partially published. Some of his not-quite-finished work is included here - from Ark of Bones, the novel Jonoah and the Green Stone, Hope of Wind and more. Toni Morrison called his work "some of the most beautiful, moving and profound poetry and fiction that I have ever read." xx, 348 pp. Very near fine in a fine dustjacket. (appears unread, but some foxing to top edge of textblock) Very uncommon in the hardcover edition and especially in this condition.
