Paperback. Etat : Very Good. The fourth edition of this popular pocket guide provides quick-reference information that will help you use Oracle's PL/SQL language, including the newest Oracle Database 11g features. It's a companion to Steven Feuerstein and Bill Pribyl's bestselling Oracle PL/SQL Programming. This concise guide boils down the most vital PL/SQL information into an accessible summary of: fundamental language elements (e.g., block structure, datatypes, declarations); statements for program control, cursor management, and exception handling; records, procedures, functions, triggers, and packages; calling PL/SQL functions in SQL; and, compilation options, object-oriented features, collections, and Java integration. The new edition describes such Oracle Database 11g elements as PL/SQL's function result cache, compound triggers, the Continue statement, the Simple_Integer datatype, and improvements to native compilation, regular expressions, and compiler optimization (including intra-unit inlining). In addition, this book now includes substantial new sections on Oracle's built-in functions and packages. When you need answers quickly, the "Oracle PL/SQL Language Pocket Reference" will save you hours of frustration. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Etat : Very Good. This text provides an introduction to Java Message Service (JMS), the standard Java application program interface (API) from Sun Microsystems that supports the formal communication known as messaging between computers in a network. JMS provides a common interface to standard messaging protocols and to special messaging services in support of Java programs. The messages exchange crucial data between computers, rather than between users - information such as event notification and service requests. Messaging is often used to co-ordinate programs in dissimilar systems or written in different programming languages. Using the JMS interface, a programmer can invoke the messaging services of IBM's MQSeries, Progress Software's SonicMQ, and other popular messaging product vendors. In addition, JMS supports messages that contain serialized Java objects and messages that contain Extensible Markup Language (XML) pages. Messaging is a powerful new paradigm that makes it easier to uncouple different parts of an enterprise application. Messaging clients work by sending messages to a message server, which is responsible for delivering the messages to their destination. Message delivery is asynchronous, meaning that the client can continue working without waiting for the message to be delivered. The contents of the message can be anything from a simple text string to a serialized Java object or an XML document. Java Message Service shows how to build applications using the point-to-point and publish-and-subscribe models; how to use features like transactions and durable subscriptions to make an application reliable; and how to use messaging within Enterprise JavaBeans. It also introduces a new EJB type, the MessageDrivenBean, that is part of EJB 2.0, and discusses integration of messaging into J2EE. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Etat : Very Good. After years of using spacer GIFs, layers of nested tables, and other improvised solutions for building your web sites, getting used to the more stringent "standards-compliant" design that is de rigueur among professionals today can be intimidating. With standards-driven design, keeping style separate from content is not just a possibility but a reality. You no longer use HTML and XHTML as design tools, but strictly as ways to define the meaning and structure of web content. And Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) are no longer just something interesting to tinker with, but a reliable method for handling all matters of presentation, from fonts and colors to page layout. When you follow the standards, both the site's design and underlying code are much cleaner. But how do you keep all those HTML and XHTML tags and CSS values straight? Jennifer Niederst-Robbins, the author of our definitive guide on standards-compliant design, "Web Design in a Nutshell", offers you the perfect little guide when you need answers immediately: HTML and XHTML Pocket Reference. This revised and updated new edition takes the top 20 per cent of vital reference information from her "Nutshell" book, augments it judiciously, cross-references everything, and organizes it according to the most common needs of web developers. The result is a handy book that offers the bare essentials on web standards in a small, concise format that you can use carry anywhere for quick reference. This guide will literally fit into your back pocket. Inside "HTML and XHTML Pocket Reference", you'll find instantly accessible alphabetical listings of every element and attribute in the HTML 4.01 and XHTML 1.0 Recommendations. This is an indispensable reference for any serious web designer, author, or programmer who needs a fast on-the-job resource when working with established web standards. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Etat : Very Good. CVS, the Concurrent Versions System, is the popular source-code management tool that frees developers from the chaos that too often ensues when multiple users work on the same file. An open source technology that is available on most computer platforms, including Windows and Mac OS X, CVS is widely used to manage program code, Web site content, and to track changes made to system configuration files. Multiple users can check out files from a directory tree, make changes, and then commit those changes back into the directory. If two developers modify the same file, CVS enables both sets of changes to be merged together into one final file. This text is a complete and easy-to-follow reference that helps programmers and system administrators apply order to the task of managing large quantities of documents. It covers basic concepts and usage of CVS, and features a comprehensive reference for CVS commands - including a handy Command Reference Card for quick, on-the-job checks. The book also includes advanced information on all aspects of CVS that involve automation, logging, branching and merging, and watches. Readers will find in-depth coverage of the following: installing CVS and building your first repository; basic use of CVS, including importing projects, checking out projects, committing changes, and updating projects; tagging, branching and merging; working with multiple users; clients, operating systems, and IDEs; repository management and managing remote repositories; project administration, including bug tracking systems, enforcing log messages; and history and annotation. Version control is essential to maintaining order in any project, large or small. Any CVS user, from beginners to team leaders and system administrators, should find this practical guide to CVS indispensable in getting the most from this valuable tool. Designed with the power user in mind, this book is laid out for optimal accessibility; it defines problems clearly and follows up with concise, yet detailed, solutions. Windows 2000 Quick Fixes should be a reference for both the novice and the well-seasoned Microsoft OS user. For instance, newcomers to Windows 2000 who have children using their computers should be able to quickly learn how to protect some areas without walling off the entire system. While the book is designed for easy access, the material is by no means basic. It provides extensive coverage of problems for both the Windows 2000 Professional and Windows 2000 Server editions, and takes power users from installation issues, through complex networking configuration problems, to important backup and security concerns. Some of the topics covered include: setting up a dual-boot system; recovering data; resolving hardware configuration conflicts; restoring the Registry from a back up; making a printer available through the Internet; using automatic address assignment without DHCP; configuring Internet Connection Sharing; hosting a Web site; and setting up an ftp site. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Etat : Very Good. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is poised to make its mark on the Web. With good implementations in Internet Explorer 5.0 and Opera 3.6, and 100% support expected in Netscape's Mozilla browser, signs are that CSS is rapidly becoming a useful, reliable, and powerful tool for web authors. CSS is the W3C-approved method for enriching the visual presentation of Web pages. Cascading Style Sheets: The Definitive Guide offers a complete, detailed review of CSS1 and CSS positioning, as well as an overview of CSS2. Each property is explored in detail with a discussion of how each interacts with other properties. There is also information on how to avoid common mistakes in interpretation. This book covers CSS in a way that both acknowledges and describes current browser support, instead of simply describing the way things work in theory. It offers both Web authors and scripters a comprehensive guide to using CSS effectively. Cascading Style Sheets: The Definitive Guide targets veteran Web authors who have already invested thousands of hours in learning HTML and writing web pages and are wondering why they need to learn a brand new language of style. The book supplies those dubious but curious Web authors with the information they need to easily implement CSS for their Web site. The book also addresses an audience of novice Web authors who are already straining to learn all of the tags and attributes of HTML and can benefit now from implementing CSS correctly instead of repeating the mistakes of the past. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Etat : Very Good. How do you know whether a hot technology will succeed or fail? Or where the next big idea will come from? The best answers come not from the popular myths we tell about innovation, but instead from time-tested truths that explain how we've made it this far. This book shows the way. In The Myths of Innovation, bestselling author Scott Berkun takes a careful look at innovation history, including the software and Internet Age, to reveal how ideas truly become successful innovations - truths that people can apply to today's challenges. Using dozens of examples from the history of technology, business, and the arts, you'll learn how to convert the knowledge you have into ideas that can change the world, such as: why all innovation is a collaborative process; how innovation depends on persuasion; why problems are more important than solutions; how the good innovation is the enemy of the great; and, why the biggest challenge is knowing when it's good enough. For centuries before Google, MIT, and IDEO, modern hotbeds of innovation, we struggled to explain any kind of creation, from the universe itself to the multitudes of ideas around us. While we can make atomic bombs, and dry-clean silk ties, we still don't have satisfying answers for simple questions like: Where do songs come from? Are there an infinite variety of possible kinds of cheese? How did Shakespeare and Stephen King invent so much, while we're satisfied watching sitcom reruns? Our popular answers have been unconvincing, enabling misleading, fantasy-laden myths to grow strong. - Scott Berkun, from the text. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Etat : Very Good. This mini book will act as an extension to Programming Entity Framework 2nd Edition. Code First is an additional means of building a model to be used with the Entity Framework and is creating a lot of excitement in the .NET development community. The reader will begin with an overview of what Code First is, why it was created, how it fits into the Entity Framework and when to use it over the alternatives. Next the reader will gain an understanding of how Code First's built in conventions work and how to override them with configuration - whether they choose to use attribute based Data Annotations or strongly typed Fluent API configurations. The mini-book will then review the modeling possibilities of Code First, looking first at the impact of its conventions and then demonstrating how to override that behavior (and its impact on the database) first with the Annotations and then with the Fluent API. The book will also explore how Code First Database initialization works, the options it provides and how they impact your application development and database. Finally the reader will get a chance to see Code First in action in a small application. Because more complex application development with Code First will depend on an understanding of the DbContext API, which is the focus of Minibook #2, readers will see additional application scenarios with Code First in that following mini-book. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Etat : Very Good. SQL (Structured Query Language) is the heart of a relational database management system. It's the language used to query the database, to create new tables in the database, to update and delete database fields, and to set privileges in the database. This text is aimed at everyone who needs to access an Oracle database using SQL - developers, DBAs, designers, and managers. SQL is based on research dating back to the late 1960s, but its first commercial release was in the RDBMS announced by the fledgling Oracle Corporation in 1979. Since that time, every other database vendor has adopted SQL, and ANSI and the ISO have made it a standard. Although vendors diverge in their extensions to SQL, the core language is standard across vendor boundaries. Despite SQL's long history and relative simplicity, few developers and database administrators are truly masters of SQL. The constant stream of vendor enhancements, the hard-won experience in tuning SQL for best performance, and the requirements of particular operational environments mean that there is always more to learn about SQL. "Oracle SQL: The Essential Reference" aims to deliver the information needed to keep ahead of the learning curve on standard SQL and Oracle's extensions to it. There are chapters on: basic SQL elements (naming requirements, column types, pseudo-types, data conversion rules, operators); Data Definition Language (DDL) and Data Manipulation Language (DML); common language elements (constraints, storage clause, predicates); SQL functions; PL/SQL (including procedures, functions, and packages); SQL*Plus, and Oracle SQL optimization and tuning. The book covers Oracle 8i, release 8.1.6. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Etat : Very Good. The author of the best-selling Java in a Nutshell has created an entire book of real-world Java programming examples that you can learn from. If you learn best by example, this is the book for you. This third edition covers Java 1.4 and contains 193 complete, practical examples: over 21,900 lines of densely commented, professionally written Java code, covering 20 distinct client-side and server-side APIs. It includes new chapters on the Java Sound API and the New I/O API. The chapters on XML and servlets have been rewritten to cover the latest versions of the specifications and to demonstrate best practices for Java 1.4. New and updated examples throughout the book demonstrate many other new Java features and APIs. Java Examples in a Nutshell is a companion volume to Java in a Nutshell, Java Foundation Classes in a Nutshell, and Java Enterprise in a Nutshell. It picks up where those quick references leave off, providing a wealth of examples for both novices and experts. This book doesn't hold your hand; it simply delivers well-commented working examples with succinct explanations to help you learn and explore Java and its APIs. Java Examples in a Nutshell contains examples that demonstrate: Core APIs, including I/O, New I/O, threads, networking, security, serialization, and reflection; Desktop APIs, highlighting Swing GUIs, Java 2D graphics, preferences, printing, drag-and-drop, JavaBeans, applets, and sound; Enterprise APIs, including JDBC (database access), JAXP (XML parsing and transformation), Servlets 2.4, JSP 2.0 (JavaServer Pages), and RMI. The book begins with introductory examples demonstrating structured and object-oriented programming techniques for new Java programmers. A special index at the end of the book makes it easy to look up examples that use a particular Java class or accomplish a desired task. In between, each chapter includes exercises that challenge readers and suggest further avenues for exploration. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Etat : Very Good. XML, the Extensible Markup Language, is a W3C endorsed standard for document markup. Because of its ability to deliver portable data, XML is positioned to be a key Web application technology. Aiming to address the complexity and potential of this markup language, this text provides a desktop reference which should allow users to take advantage of XML's full potential. The book shows how to format files and data structures correctly for use in XML documents. XML defines a basic syntax used to mark up data with simple, human-readable tags, and provides a standard format for computer documents. This format is flexible enough to be customized for transforming data between applications as diverse as Web sites, electronic data interchange, voice mail systems, and wireless devices, to name a few. Developers can either write their own programs that interact with, massage, and manipulate the data in XML documents, or they can use off-the-shelf software like web browsers and text editors to work with XML documents. Either choice gives them access to a wide range of free libraries in a variety of languages that can read and write XML. The XML specification defines the exact syntax this markup must follow: how elements are delimited by tags, what a tag looks like, what names are acceptable for elements, where attributes are placed, and so forth. XML doesn't have a fixed set of tags and elements that are supposed to work for everybody in all areas of interest for all time. It allows developers and writers to define the elements they need as they need them. Although XML is quite flexible in the elements it allows to be defined, it is quite strict in many other respects. This text covers the fundamental rules that all XML documents and authors must adhere to, detailing the grammar that specifies where tags may be placed, what they must look like, which element names are legal, how attributes attach to elements, and much more. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.
