The interior is remarkably bright, with some scuffing along edges, tips, joints, else quite nice.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Gilt monogram of the 5th Earl of Essex (a most wealthy Earldom that allowed George Essex to safely and smoothly move from sinecure to sinecure; his wealth however enabled him to entertain, and commission from, artists such as Turner, Pugin, Horsley, David Wilkie and Landseer). Gilt borders and titling. The spines have wear about the seams and head and feet. The boards have shelving and handling wear about the edges and corners. The boards and spines are comfortable and steady. The contents are most pleasing - especially taking their age into account. They are fresh, clean, clear, only very occasionally smeared with shallow foxing, certain, companionable and assured, all very charming. fk. This is 'Universal Gazetteer or Geographical Dictionary or sometimes known as Brooke's and Walkers Gazetteer by Longmann' and is founded on the works of Brookes and Walker with numerous maps. It was produced by multiple publishers as listed in 1840. This is a cloth hardcover book in a green shade with titling attached to a paper plate on the spine. This book has no dust jacket and shows significant bumping to corners, edges and spine, plus noted scuffing to all cover aspects including fading to spine. There are noticeable usage and handling marks with the spine displaying dirt marking and a tear to cloth cover at top and centre. The interior has owners label attached to interior cover, yellowing and age spotting to pages and usage marks to handcut page edges. Dimensions 23cm x 14.5cm x 6cm.Regrettably, with heavy or large books I may request additional postage/shipping costs, however I will do my best to keep within quoted cost.

Neist' after designs by 'Wale' . 12 mo. 17.3cm x 11.0cm x 2.2cm. Tan calf covered boards, edges lightly rubbed and bumped. Smooth spines with rubbed gilt decoration, red title label, and brown volume number. Marbled endpapers. Each volume with an engraved armorial bookplate to the verso of each front board: "Sr. Martin Browne Ffolkes Bart." Each volume with an engraved frontis. Pages lightly toned. Bowyer ledgers 4968 .*** "Sir Martin Browne ffolkes, 1st Baronet, FRS (21 May 1749 11 December 1821) was an English baronet and Member of Parliament. Martin ffolkes was the only son of William ffolkes, a barrister of Hillington, Norfolk and his second wife Mary, the daughter and heiress of Sir William Browne, MD, President of the Royal College of Physicians. His uncle was Martin Folkes, President of the Royal Society. He was educated at Eton School from 1758 to 1766 and Emmanuel College, Cambridge and then entered Lincoln's Inn in 1768 to study law. He succeeded his father in 1783, inheriting lands in Norfolk. On the death of his grandfather Sir William Browne in 1774 he restyled himself Browne ffolkes and was created a baronet later that year. He was appointed High Sheriff of Norfolk for 1783 84 and in 1790 was elected MP for King's Lynn, sitting until his death in office in 1821. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1772. He died at Hillington in 1821 and was succeeded by his elder son, William John Henry Browne ffolkes. He had married Fanny, the daughter and coheir of Sir John Turner, 3rd Baronet of Warham, with whom he had 2 sons and 3 daughters." - See Wikipedia.

The spines have five ridges with different coloured leather patches for titling. The boards have blind stamped decoration, gilt borders. The inside rims of the boards have gilt decoration. The boards have shelving wear to the edges and corners. The spines have much wear all along the bodies, to the heads and feet. Nonetheless, the boards are handsome, steady and sure. The contents are most pleasing. They are fresh-faced, certain, agreeably healthy, clean and clear, convivial, neat, tidy, classy, with a pleasing jeunesse. fk.
