Paperback. Etat : new. Paperback. A compelling collection of interviews that sheds light on many different aspects of Isabelle Cornaro's art and deepens the understanding of the different facets of her work. Isabelle Cornaro, based in Paris and Geneva, holds degrees in art history and visual arts. She has a strong interest in experimental cinema and devotes herself to the narrative, symbolic, and economic origins of things. In her work she assumes an anthropologist-type manner to investigate people's seemingly fixated attachment to emotionally charged, even fetishised objects, creating large stage installations and short movies. This book is part of the new On Words series that presents conversations with contemporary women artists. Through them, readers come to understand the sources from which they draw inspiration, the themes in their work, and their view of the world. Hardcover. Etat : new. Hardcover. Wolfgang Beltracchi is a phenomenon of the international art world. His name is inextricably entwined with one of the greatest upheavals in the global art market. Emulating numerous world-famous artists, he developed and painted new paintings, continued their narrations and biography, and concluded them with a forged signature. His wife Helene Beltracchi then smuggled them onto the art market. Many experts were deceived by Beltracchi's stupendous skill and auctioneers cast many doubts aside in the interests of insatiable market demand, selling the paintings as authentic works by the purported artists. Reading the artistic handwriting of a painting requires an exceptional willingness and ability to be able to empathise and identify with the artist, until you "can feel what the other feels" (Wolfgang Beltracchi). Through extensive discussions with the painter and his wife, the psychoanalyst Jeannette Fischer explored this capability that is so pronounced for Beltracchi. In her new book, she places this in relation to the disappearance of Beltracchi's own signature. As with her previous highly successful book about the performance artist Marina Abramovic, Jeannette Fischer has created an exceptionally insightful portrait of a fascinating artist personality. AUTHOR: Jeannette Fischer has been practicing for more than 30 years as a Freudian psychoanalyst in Zurich, with a special focus on the topics of violence, power, and powerlessness. She has also curated exhibitions on these topics and produced two film documentaries. SELLING POINTS: . The first book from a psychoanalytical perspective about Wolfgang Beltracchi, painter and legendary art forger . Beltracchi is a unique phenomenon of the international art world and one of its most notorious names . Psychoanalyst Jeannette Fischer once again presents an exceptionally insightful portrait of a fascinating artist personality . Jeannette Fischer's previous book, Psychoanalyst meets Marina Abramovic, is an ongoing sales success since its release in spring 2019 20 colour illustrations The first book from a psychoanalytical perspective about Wolfgang Beltrachi, painter and legendary art forger and one of the international art world's most notorious names, offering an exceptionally insightful portrait of a fascinating artist personality. Paperback. Etat : new. Paperback. In the summer 2015, famous performance artist Marina Abramovic and psychanalyst Jeannette Fischer spent four days together at Abramovics house in the Hudson Valley. Associating freely, they took a psychoanalytical perspective for a lengthy exploration of Abramovics biography and art and their interrelation.???Abramovic went into this discussion in hopes of reaching a better understanding of herself, her personality, and her work. Conversations with artists are widely available, she notes, but a chance to use psychoanalysis to put an artists life and work in context is much rarer. The resulting book is neither a therapists report nor a Fischers analysis of Abramovic. Rather, it is a search for understanding conducted by the pair, looking for the structures and dynamics that underlie Abramovics life and art. The dialogues are presented along with Fischers comments on them and images of some of Abramovics performances that are referred to in the discussion. An account of Marina Abramovic's dialogue with psychoanalyst Jeannette Fischer, offering an understanding of the underlying structures and dynamics of Abramovic's extraordinary performances. Paperback. Etat : new. Paperback. French sculptor Aristide Maillol (18611944) is sometimes referred to as the "Cezanne of sculpture" as he, like Paul Cezanne in painting, paved the way for abstraction. Though Maillol began as a painter, he produced an impressive collection of sculptures, many featuring women, over the course of his career. This book, published in conjunction with a comprehensive Maillol exhibition at the Kunsthaus Zuerich, examines how the male gaze operates in Maillol's art and the changing perceptions of this gaze from the 19th century to today. A photo essay by Franca Candrian contrasts Maillol's Venus au collier with works by modern and contemporary women artists from the Kunsthaus Zuerich's collection. An essay by feminist art historian and curator Catherine McCormack explores the presence of art depicting female nudes in contemporary museums. Supplemented by an introduction by Philippe Buettner, curator of Kunsthaus Zuerich's permanent collection, the book thus offers a fresh and unique view of Maillol and his art. Text in English and German. AUTHOR: Kunsthaus Zuerich is one of Europe's leading art museums and Switzerland's largest art institution. Its permanent collection comprises masterpieces ranging from medieval to contemporary art, with a focus on French Impressionism, Postimpressionism, and classical modernism. SELLING POINTS: . Explores the question of the foundation of 19th and early 20th-century classical-academic artists' male gaze at women, and how we perceive it today against the backdrop of current gender debates . An extraordinary photo essay juxtaposes Maillol's Venus au collier with works by modern and contemporary women artists . With a contribution by feminist art historian and curator Catherine McCormack 52 colour illustrations A timely exploration of perceptions of the male artists gaze through Aristide Maillols sculpture. Paperback. Etat : new. Paperback. David Chipperfield's new building for the Kunsthaus Zuerich now stands in all its splendour on Zurich's Heimplatz, opposite the old museum building of 1910 designed by Karl Moser. Its opening to the public in October 2021 will make the Kunsthaus Zuerich Switzerland's largest art museum. Following the two previous volumes on Kunsthaus Zuerich's architectural history and the design for turning it into an art museum for the 21st century, this book documents the genesis of David Chipperfield's extension from proposal through political debates about the entire project to completed structure. It features a foreword by David Chipperfield and an essay by Christoph Felger, executive architect for the project at David Chipperfield Architects Berlin, that discusses the design concept, the promise made with it, and its fulfilment. A conversation between Christoph Felger, the director of the City of Zurich's Building Surveyor's Office Wiebke Roesler, and Kunsthaus Zuerich's director Christoph Becker, and architecture critic Sabine von Fischer, as well as numerous illustrations and plans sound out this new volume. AUTHOR: Kunsthaus Zuerich is one of Europe's leading art museums and Switzerland's largest art institution. Its permanent collection comprises masterpieces ranging from medieval to contemporary art, with a focus on French impressionism, post-impressionism, and classical modernism. SELLING POINTS: . Traces the genesis of David Chipperfield's extension for the Kunsthaus Zuerich . Published to coincide with the opening of the extension in October 2021 60 colour, 20 b/w illustrations . Paperback. Etat : new. Paperback. While he was working to complete the Allmannajuvet Zinc Mine Museum in southern Norway in 2016, Swiss architect Peter Zumthor asked Norwegian architectural historian Mari Lending to engage in a dialogue about the project. In meandering, impressionistic style, and drawing on their favorite writers, such as Johann Peter Hebel, Stendhal, Nabokov, and T. S. Eliot, their exchanges explore how history, time, and temporalities reverberate across Zumthors oeuvre. Looking back, Zumthor ponders on how a feeling of history has informed his attempts at emotional reconstruction by means of building, from architectural interventions in dramatic landscapes to his design for the redevelopment of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, which conceived the building on a suitably grand urban scale. This small, beautifully designed book records the conversation between Zumthor and Lending, accompanied by photographs taken by the renowned Swiss architectural photographer Helene Binet. The resulting book is a surprisingly revelatory view of one of the most interesting and restlessly creative architects of our era. Peter Zumthor in dialogue with Mari Lending explores how history, time and temporalities reverberates across his oeuvre, a feeling of history has informed his continuous attempts of emotional reconstruction by means of building. Soft cover. Etat : Very Good. Photographs by Ernst Scheidegger (illustrateur). In English. As you can see from the photos, the covers are in quite decent condition with just some light surface scratching and a thin crease at the top edge of the spine. There's not much by way of soiling. The book is square and very solidly bound from cover to cover, nicely tight pages, no binding issues. The pages are exceptionally clean. Scrolling through, I'm not seeing any soiling. There is light toning at the margins, as you often see with glossy paper. There is a tiny crease at the very tip of the top corners of the early pages. By the time you get to the illustrations this crease has become light and vague. There are no placeholder or turned- down corner creases. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. 'Ernst Scheidegger, a friend of the sculptor, knew a very different Giacometti. Scheidegger accompanied him to his studio, ate and drank with him, and relaxed with him in his family home. Traces of a Friendship is a document of this intimate life of Giacometti, consisting of photographs that Scheidegger took over the course of two decades. Scheidegger opens Giacometti's studio and house in Maloja, Switzerland, to readers, allowing them rare access to the most closely held aspects of the artist's life. Sketching in his studio, having a cup of coffee, his works in progress, his art in installation views, even his sleeping cats---Scheidegger captures the essence of the artist's working life in images artful in their own right. "Alberto Giacometti's nature, work, and thoughts fascinated me and other friends tremendously," wrote Scheidegger. "" I was one of the lucky ones allowed to experience his life. With Traces of a Friendship, Scheidegger expands that circle of the "Lucky ones" to include all those equally fascinated by this modern master.'.

Paperback. Etat : new. Paperback. The work of Japanese-Swiss painter Teruko Yokoi (19242020) is characterised by unflagging creative energy and constant evolution. This book takes an in-depth look at her painting methods and her own vocabulary of abstraction, which was formulated over the course of a long artistic career. Art historian Kuniko Satonobu Spirig, who is also of Japanese origin, analyses and explains cultural and biographical relations in Yokoi's art, as well as the influences of abstract expressionism on her painting technique. Raised in the city of Tsushima on the Japanese island of that name, Yokoi moved to Tokyo in 1949, where she attended the private Joshibi University of Art and Design (Joshibijutsu Daigaku). In 1954, she went to the United States, where she completed her education at the San Francisco Art Institute and with painters Hans Hofmann and Julian E. Levi in New York. There she met artists such as Sam Francis-whom she married in 1959- Mark Rothko, and Kenzo Okada. In this environment, she drew new energy and began to develop her own style of abstraction and to invent her own idiom. In 1962, she moved to Switzerland, where she lived and worked tirelessly in the city of Bern until her death. Text in English and Japanese. AUTHOR: Kuniko Satonobu Spirig is a Japanese-born art historian, journalist, and filmmaker based in Geneva. Abstract art and the work of female artists are the main focus of her work. Paperback. Etat : new. Paperback. British-born artist Rachel Lumsden paints primarily large-format figurative paintings that are characterised by intensely atmospheric pictorial spaces. Her imagery coalesces on the canvas through a virtuoso handling of paint, evoking visual narratives which come unexpectedly close and yet cannot be entirely grasped. In her book Igniting Penguins: On Painting Now, Lumsden invites the reader on an entertaining excursion into the art world and to the core of painting itself. Along the way we are introduced to some of art's powerful and quirky gatekeepers, are baffled by art's gender roles, and we discover what makes figurative painting the sexy form of quantum physics. Lumsden's essay is both a pamphlet and a brief autobiography. And, above all, it is a blazing declaration of love for painting. AUTHOR: Rachel Lumsden, born 1968 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, has been living and working in Switzerland since 2002. She studied visual art at Nottingham Trent University and the Royal Academy Schools in London and taught painting at Lucerne School of Art and Design 2007 19. SELLING POINTS: . Paperback. Etat : new. Paperback. This multifaceted reader explores the cultural heritage of the pre-colonial Kingdom of Benin, in the territory of what today is Nigeria. Objects from Benin are held also in Swiss museums and, as in other countries of the Global North, have become the subject of controversial debate. The richly illustrated volume offers new findings on the historical and current significance of artefacts. Moreover, it highlights the current dialogue with partners from Nigeria and the diaspora, reflecting on the methods of cooperative research and the future of the objects currently kept in Swiss collections. Biographies of individual items and examples of mediation and exhibition practice provide an insight into interwoven histories, the international art trade, and post-colonial reconciliation work between Africa and Europe. Mobilizing: Benin Heritage in Swiss Museums is published as part of the Benin Initiative Switzerland (202124), a project by eight Swiss museums focusing on provenance research on artifacts from colonial contexts. Texts and images invite reflection on art works and values, relationships, and views of history. The close collaboration with representatives from Nigeria and the diaspora enables new forms of knowledge production. This not only sets cultural heritage in motion, but also the museum as an institution itself. AUTHORS: Esther Tisa Francini is head of archives and provenance research at the Museum Rietberg in Zurich and co-director of the Benin Initiative Switzerland. Alice Hertzog is a social anthropologist working as provenance researcher at the University of Zurich's Ethnographic Museum. In the interwar period, the home of art-lovers and collectors Annie and Oskar Mueller-Widmann in Basel was a meeting place for some of the most significant protagonists of modernism, including artists Hans Arp and Sophie Taeuber-Arp. This volume is the first to publish in English the letters and postcards that Sophie Taeuber-Arp wrote to the Mueller-Widmanns between 1932 and 1943. Preserved in its entirety, the collection is a core testimony to Taeuber-Arp's life and work. Walburga Krupp, a leading expert on the artist and co-curator of the major retrospective Sophie Taeuber-Arp: Living Abstraction at Kunstmuseum Basel, London's Tate Modern, and the MoMA in New York in 202122, has annotated the transcribed and translated letters with insightful commentary and picks up on significant topics of this correspondence in an introductory essay.
