Paperback. Etat : Good. 'Is this the same Algarve', you may ask, 'as the Algarve of high-rise hotels, fine beaches and a coastline so famous that there is no need to look further?' Such is the beauty of the coastline, that few visitors look for more - but Brian and Eileen Anderson (the authors of this guidebook) did. They say, we found a countryside full of interest and beauty, quietly awaiting discovery. From flowers and fountains, hilltops and history, to windmills and water-mills, we can set your feet wandering to find them all. There are car tours, too, to get you out and about, searching out little-known points of interest - like the huge rose compass (rosa dos ventos) on the barren promontory of Sagres, where Prince Henry the Navigator founded his school of navigation, or the Moorish castle and old Roman bridge at Paderne. A guidebook that will add a new dimension to your Algarve holiday. The book has been read but remains in clean condition. All pages are intact and the cover is intact. Some minor wear to the spine.

Paperback. Etat : Very Good. 5 car tours, 50 long and short walks, 32 picnic suggestionsThe car tours and walks in this book are divided between six areas: the coastal strip from Denia to Benidorm, the Serpis and Gallinera valleys, the Laguart and Jalon valleys, the Guadalest, Algar and Sella valleys, the Alcoi area, and the sierras of Carrasqueta and Maigmo. The car tours lead through fertile valleys smothered in blossom or sweet-scented fruit to delightful inland villages. Windmills, waterfalls and 'snow wells' feature among the picnic settings. But the rugged silhouettes of the area's many sierras dominate the landscape -an irresistable attraction for walkers. The Costa Blanca is ideal for countryside exploration all year round. Travel only a short distance inland, and you will find yourself surrounded by market gardens, orchards and orange groves, while the dark rugged silhouettes of the sierras beckon you close. Wild flowers, including exotic orchids, abound, and the air is filled with the scent of fragrant herbs; birdsong drifts along on the breeze, The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Paperback. Etat : Very Good. THE guide to Madeira for more than 30 years and a winner of the Thomas Cook Best Travel Guide Award, this book is by far the most heavily reviewed guide on Amazon, with 86 reviews for the previous edition. It guides the visitor across the island by car and on foot. But it is primarily known as a walking guide. The 'Sunday Times' said, 'A remarkable paperback which may have done more than any other to change the way its readers spend their holidays: this book single-handedly turned levada-walking into something approaching a craze.' Levadas are watercourses that carry rainfall from the mountains to irrigate the cultivated terraces, and they have totally captured the imagination of visitors to the island - whether walkers or not. Many people use the book just to picnic or stroll in the idyllic surroundings beside a levada. Still, the island is one of Europe's top destinations for mountain walks. With this in mind, we've concentrated in this updated 12th edition on re-walking all the high-level routes - especially important in view of last year's path collapse on the major traverse from Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo. In addition to the 'classics', about half of the 100 different routes in the guide have been rewalked. Naturally all the car tours have been checked as well - and the new edition warns you about major road closures. As usual, there are fairly significant changes to all the maps - including the addition of two new breathtaking mountain roads for keen motorists. And all of this revision was carried out only two months prior to publication of this new edition, so it is really up-to-date. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Etat : Very Good. 10 car tours, 50 long and short walks, 41 picnic suggestionsOne of a two-volume guide to Provence, intended for those who want to tour by car and enjoy some superb walks along the way. Beginning at Nice and the Riviera, you head north and west through the Alpes-Maritimes and Alpes de Haute-Provence (highlights include the Mercantour National Park, Grand Canyon du Verdon and a journey on the Train des Pignes). Beyond Var, with its unspoilt coast, the book takes you round the Montagne Ste-Victoire to Aix-en-Provence.The touring routes have been described in such detail that there is no need to make constant reference to a map. The walks selected - all set in areas of great natural beauty or historical interest - are those the authors believe offer the greatest sense of satisfaction for the effort involved. They are mostly circular walks suitable for moderately fit people.Unusually for a 'Landscapes' guide, this book inludes recommended restaurants, with details of their menus. Paperback. Etat : Good. Combines the best features of a Sunflower walking guide with all the detail you would expect in a hefty general guide. A Turkish poet once described the area between Bodrum and Marmaris as 'terrifyingly' beautiful. Silver-leaved olive groves and wild inland mountains yield up the stone remains of ancient civilisations. The dazzling multi-coloured bays, framed by fissured cliffs and collared with golden sand, are the stuff of dreams. Snuggled into the coves are romantic fishing villages, where you will be greeted with genuine Turkish hospitality. And in Bodrum and Marmaris you can mix with the Turkish jet set. In some old mountain villages and along isolated sections of the coast there are more and more small quiet places to stay. All the authors have been visiting Turkey for many years, writing general and walking guides. They guide you through the most beautiful landscapes of the region. Coverage: Getting there and getting about, Recommended accommodation and restaurants (with prices), Practicalities A-Z , History , 15-20 main walks with many variations, all with large-scale topo maps, Fold-out area maps, Detailed town plans showing locations of all sights, hotels and restaurants, Plans of ancient sites, Many 'feature' panels. Visit Pompei, Vesuvius and the other famous sites in the area or, better still, walk to hillside villages or remote monasteries and be regaled by the most stunning of views all along the way. Sorrento, Amalfi and Capri are wonderful areas for walkers, with inland areas linked to the coastal resorts of the Neapolitan Riviera by ancient footpaths and mule trails. Paperback. Etat : Very Good. In natural beauty, La Palma rivals all the other Canary Islands put together. Its immense, abyss-like crater, the Caldera de Taburiente, is considered to be the largest of its kind in the world. Deep within its pine-speckled, towering walls is a year-round abundance of gushing streams, boisterous cascades, and a plummeting waterfall. Outside the crater, high on the cloud-catching hillsides, 20 million-year-old laurel forests grow as dense as a jungle. In the southern half of the island, hills pitted with volcanic craters and mini-deserts of black lapilli speak of the island's volcanic past. This stark, striking landscape, all the more dramatic for its stabs of volcanic reds, oranges, and yellows, is far removed from the lush and verdant, tree-clad north. El Hierro, the least-visited of all the Canaries, at first appears to be a dried-up, sprawling mountain of rock, rising straight from the sea, treeless and barren. But Noel reveals the island's hidden charms - as remarkable as any in the archipelago. Whether you tour La Palma or El Hierro by car or discover them on foot, Noel introduces you to the islands' best beauty spots. For La Palma: 3 car tours (with accompanying touring map), 38 long and short walks (illustrated with 1:50,000 topo maps showing the official trail numbers), 22 picnic suggestions. For El Hierro: 1 car tour (with accompanying touring map), 12 long and short walks (each with 1:50,000 topo map), 8 picnic suggestions. Plans of Santa Cruz de la Palma and Valverde (El Hierro).
