Hardcover. Etat : Fine in Dust Jacket. First Edition, First Printing. Octavo, original black boards lettered in gilt. 311 pp. Signed by the Author on the title page. A fine copy in a fine dust jacket. Winner of the Prix Medici, Governor- General's Award, Kiriyama Prize and Giller Prize. A small post-it note on the front endpaper (it's removable and didn't leave a mark) shows me that this book comes from the stock of Poor Richard's Books in Victoria BC, where it was priced at $50. Poor Richards, which was Barney and Joanna Hagar, was one of the bookshops that was around when I first started in the trade - or before I started, when I would go out book-hunting on weekends, sometimes alone, sometimes with my daughter Undine in tow. It was a good bookshop, and eventually it ended up in a beautiful heritage building in an old part of Victoria. Barney and Joanna shut Poor Richards down in 2004, and now every once in a while I find something that I know came from there. And so it goes.

Hard Cover. Etat : Fine (see description). Etat de la jaquette : Fine (see description). Uncredited Cover Art (illustrateur). First Edition. -----------( 1st printing of the First Edition ) ---hardcover, a Near Fine/Fine example, --- in a Near Fine/Fine dustjacket, looks new, jacket is now in a hi-quality mylar protector, signed without inscription by Atwood on the title page, ---"The Blind Assassin opens with these simple, resonant words: "Ten days after the war ended, my sister Laura drove a car off a bridge." They are spoken by Iris, whose terse account of her sister's death in 1945 is followed by an inquest report proclaiming the death accidental. But just as the reader expects to settle into Laura?s story, Atwood introduces a novel-within-a-novel. Entitled The Blind Assassin, it is a science fiction story told by two unnamed lovers who meet in dingy backstreet rooms. When we return to Iris, it is through a 1947 newspaper article announcing the discovery of a sailboat carrying the dead body of her husband, a distinguished industrialist. Brilliantly weaving together such seemingly disparate elements, Atwood creates a world of astonishing vision and unforgettable impact."---, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo ///SIGNED ---GUARANTEED to be AVAILABLE/// ---sizes are approximate (generally within 1/8 inch)--- Size: 6.5w x 9.5h Inches.
