Hardcover. Etat : Near Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Near Fine. Jacket photo by Stephen Morley (illustrateur). Reprint. First published in 1975, this is a third impression of 1988. Some very slight edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, some slight yellowing to page block, not price clipped (no published price), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy, looks hardly read. 256pp. The death of Sylvia Kaye figured dramatically in Thursday afternoon's edition of the Oxford Mail. By Friday evening Inspector Morse had informed the nation that the police were looking for a dangerous man ? facing charges of willful murder, sexual assault and rape. But as the obvious leads fade into twilight and darkness, Morse becomes more and more convinced that passion holds the key. The very first Inspector Morse detective thriller. The first tv series tie in edition, starring John Thaw as Inspector Morse. Scarce even in this later impression.

Hardcover. Etat : Good. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. Jacket photograph by Jack Burnicle (illustrateur). 1st Edition. Dated 3.6.77, inscribed to "Marjorie," and signed "Colin Dexter" in blue ink direct to top of the FFE. Copyright page states "First published 1975 by Macmillan London Limited." Small bang to top of front board. Pages considerably age-toned -- especially to the edges -- as usual. "SBN" listed as 333 17929 3. We have added a preliminary zero to get the ABE computer to accept this number as a valid ISBN, though (again) no such zero appears to the copyright page (nor to the front flap, nor anywhere else), here. We'll grade this copy "good in very-good" -- the jacket not chipped or torn but considerably sun-faded to spine, said sun-fading also extending at least 1/2-inch (1.4 cm) into the jacket front panel. Not price clipped; original price of "L2.50 net" still showing to bottom of front flap. No, we're not on our way to see the debut public performance of Crosby, Stills & Nash at Max Yasgur's farm. Instead, this is the first "Inspector Morse" mystery in what would become the British 13-novel series, launching several ITV television series and earning the author two Crime Writers' Silver Dagger awards, two Gold Daggers, and an OBE. 256 pp. Reduced from $1,800. Inscribed by Author(s).

Hardcover. Etat : Near Fine/Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Fine. 1st Edition. 8vo., 256pp. Beautiful First Edition of the author's first novel, introducing Oxford's Detective Chief Inspector Endeavor Morse. Bound in brown cloth with title in black on spine. Square, tight and clean throughout with save the mild toning and a few scattered spot that is almost always present due to the high acid content and poor quality of the paper used. Spine ends very gently pushed but quite trivial. Equally attractive unclipped dust-jacket, (£2.50net), isl fresh and bright with no chipping, creases or tears. Quite uncommonly signed by Dexter on the title page. Housed in a Fine custom clamshell box with illustrations reproducing the dust-jacket art. A simply gorgeous collectable copy and quite uncommon in such high-grade condition.
