Bayalos (illustrateur). 3e édition, revue et corrigée (on p. 2, the series title verso). 252 p.: tissue-guarded chromolithographed frontispiece, 7 additional leaves of chromolithographed plates; 20 cm. Mid-19th-century card binding with intricate floral decoration in gilt, red, green blue, and purple. Spine title: Etudes & Plaisirs. Engraved head pieces, tailpiece, and initials. No date of publication; 1852 is the year assigned by the NUC. Part of the series Bibliothèque Spéciale de la Jeunesse. Plates signed: Bayalos. NUC pre-1956, 150:10; Gumuchian, 2281, which gives the date of the first edition as ca. 1842 (the year of the approbation given by the archidiocese in Rouen, p. 5). Inscription on series title page: "Edith Wayne from Miss Magrath 1903." In Fair Condition: both boards are detached but present; lacking 5 cm. of binding on spine at tail; both boards are rubbed, with some loss of color and gilt; light foxing throughout; otherwise pages and plates are clean and bright. A very scarce and nicely illustrated mid-19th-century French children's book.
