First edition. Landor was an English painter, writer and explorer who travelled the world. With an assignment to paint Menelik II, Emperor of Ethiopia, Landor took the opportunity to make a trip across Africa. The journey took about a year and he covered eight thousand miles. A beautiful copy.

With Frontis photo of Author with Somali Servant, Adem, Preface in which the author state he was the only white man on this 8,500 mile jounney which took 364 days, 35 Chapters and 67 B/W Photos. Clean endpapers, minor rubbing to spine with two small stains and slightly bumped corners, light foxing to prelims, minor wear to top/tail of spine, and odd foxing throughout: condition VG. Volume Two, X11/511pp with Frontis photo of picturesque cannibals of the Sango Tribe, 35 Chapters and 99 B/W photos. Small stain to front board, corners slihtly bumped and worn, top/tail of spine shows minor wear, foxing to prelims and odd foxing throughout, tiny ink stain to rear board, otherwise a VG set.
