Cloth. Etat : Very Good. John Tenneil (illustrateur). A bright French language translation of Lewis Carroll's two best loved works, illustrated by John Tenniel. A very scarce French language edition of 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' and its sequel, 'Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There'.The first French translation of these works from translator Jacques Papy, published in November 1961.Illustrated throughout with the vignette illustrations of John Tenniel. Upon the original publication of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland in 1865, Tenniel was far more well-known than Carroll, owing to his successful career as an illustrator and cartoonist, including many pieces for the satirical periodical 'Punch'.Mathematician and author Lewis Carroll was best known for these work, which are credited the best example of literary nonsense. Whilst these volumes were initially intended for children, the word play, logic and fantastical themes present have interested and delighted scholars since its publication. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail. Spotting to back strip and board perimeters, with mark to head of rear board. Spotting to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Paged clean and bright. Very Good. book.
